Young Girls in Football
The participation of females in football is no longer news, and the population of female players continue to increase day by day.
The Young Girls Football is the junior team for women’s football. It also formed part of the junior football team. Increasing the level of female participation in football is central to the organisation’s ability to reach the goals and objectives outlined.
The Mount Waverly Sports started the female games with the youth teams. It was created shortly after the junior football which originally consists of young male players in 2016. The Club aims to encourage participation from all levels regardless of gender/sex barriers, skills etc. The Club believes in the phrase “the young shall grow” and therefore identifies with the phrase by nurturing the young ones.
Mount Waverley Sports Club also aimed at giving girls opportunities to play football in a safe and supportive environment. We are devoted to the incremental improvement and participation of each player and team. We provide a culture where players are encouraged to develop not just as football players but also as individuals. The Club is dedicated to providing a female-friendly environment.
In line with our goals, we do not only believe in talent but also hard work. We believe that hard work surpasses talent and therefore opened our doors to all regardless of experience as long as the passion is evident.
Our coaches are the best as they desire to bring out the best in each player and are dedicated to the overall excellent performance of the team. We also encourage open communications among all officials.
Young girls’ football is all about positivity and bringing out the best in young girls.
Training during seasons takes place every Monday and Thursday evenings at Pinewood reserve at the appointed time. Although players are encouraged to attend both trainings, no player will be disadvantaged if they can only attend one training sessions. Also, exact training dates and time usually are confirmed closer to the season start date for Pre-season and during the season. We bridged gender barriers by organising girls’ only training.
The Club first fielded its Under 16 youth girls’ team in 2016 where Riley Hall finish first, and Amelia van Oosterwijk placed third in the league best and fairest awards. Our Under14 also played in 2018 with Abbey Ceravec placing thirds in the League best and fairest awards. In 2019, Amelia debuted in the AFLW for the western bulldogs- our first very female junior to play at the highest level. With no football history in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we are excited for 2021 and look forward to fielding the following teams in 2021:
*Under 14 (female players born in 2007-2008)
*Under 16 (female players born in 2005-2006)
*Under 18 (female players born in 2003-2004)
However, the Club may provide exceptions to age under certain circumstances. We urge players that fall under this category to apply to waverleybluesjnr@efnl.org.au. You may also register at http://wbfc.com.au/player-registration/.
