Women's in Football
Women have been playing football for as long as the game has existed. The Women’s football teams consisted of women only and existed throughout the world’s professional football teams.
This is the women category of Mount Waverley Sports Club. Mount Waverley Sports believes in equal opportunities for all and thus provides opportunities for women to participate in sports. It lays down a framework that promotes and encourages positivity and respect toward one another. It also caters for all skills and allows for individual growth and development. The Club further recognises the uniqueness of each player and encourages open communications between players and all team officials.
The Mount Waverly Sports Club started the female games with the youth teams. It was created shortly after the junior football which originally consists of young male players in 2016. The aim of the Club is to encourage participation from all levels regardless of gender/sex barriers, skills etc. The Club believes in the phrase “the young shall grow” and therefore identifies with the phrase by nurturing the young ones.
The Mount Waverley Sports Club also aimed at giving girls opportunities to play football in a safe and supportive environment. We are devoted to the incremental improvement and participation of each player and team. We provide a culture where players are encouraged to develop not just as football players but also as individuals. The Club is dedicated to providing a female-friendly environment.
The Women’s football was launched in 2017 after the Club recorded great feat from fielding in its Young girls’ teams in 2016. Our team had players within the age bracket 16-35+ and was coordinated by Chris Goldshaw; the team made it to the Grand finale despite only six females present at its first training.
In 2018, the women’s team made it to the finals again. With no football history in 2020 due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we are excited for 2021 and look forward to fielding the following teams in 2021:
*Under 14 (female players born in 2007-2008)
*Under 16 (female players born in 2005-2006)
*Under 18 (female players born in 2003-2004)
However, the Club may provide exceptions to age under certain circumstances. We urge players that fall under this category to apply to waverleybluesjnr@efnl.org.au. You may also register @ http://wbfc.com.au/player-registration/.
Training is often scheduled and communicated to individual players before the start of pre-season or season. Notably among the women players at Mount Waverly Sports club is Ned Salter.
We are aware that women’s football is flooded with difficulties, but we are dedicated to providing a conducive environment and resources to gear more women participation in football. The overall management of the team is overseen by the Club governing council while the training of players is overseen by coaches.
