About Netball
Netball began as far back as the 1890s. Netball is a ball sport played by two teams of seven players. It is a popular game played in several countries. A lot of comparisons have been made between netball and basketball. However, whereas a player in basketball can move around the court, in netball a player needs to stay within an area depending on the position. Women usually play it. There are certain rules of netball game which may not be uncommon:
- A team consists of 7 players
- Substitutions can only be made when an injury is recorded or at half-time
- There are seven playing positions that re vital. They are Goal shooter; Goal attack; wing attack; Centre; wing defence; goal defence and goalkeeper.
- The game is started by a centre pass
- The footwork rule applies in the centre circle
- A player cannot move outside the designated positions.
- A player who wants to intercept or defend a ball must be at least 3 feet or 0.9metres away from the player in possession of the ball
- A team scores when it passes a ball down the court and shoots it through its goal ring.
Netball at Mount Waverley Sports Club
Our netball consists of a group of netball teams which are both social and competitive. It was created in Mount Waverley from our football club in 2016. In our first year, we won the Division 3 Netball EFL Premiership, and we were also runners-up in our social Comp at Jells Park!
Our netball teams aimed at providing a better social network for the football clubs female supporters during the year via netball. The 2019 season came up in the 26th of April, 2016.
We are devoted to the incremental improvement and participation of each player and team. We provide a culture where players are encouraged to develop not just as football players but also as individuals. In line with our goals, we do not only believe in talent but also hard work. We believe that hard work surpasses talent and therefore, opened our doors to all regardless of experience as long as the passion is evident.
Team management, communications and event process are facilitated through our private Facebook page. We have a pool of players available hence making the ability to request for fill-ins or extra players easier, thereby providing a solution to one of the difficulties experienced in social competitions.
We provide equal opportunities to all our players regardless of the type of sport it is. Therefore, we do not discriminate against our netball players.
While the club help facilitates the set-up of teams in competitions and provides support with sponsorship, branding, uniforms and events, the day to day and weekly running of the teams are managed and controlled by the coaches and players.
Players are open to a wide range of benefits which include access to our club room facilities for training or events; networking and creating contacts among others.
If interested in playing, coaching, or supporting the team in any way, please email waverleyblues@efl.org.au.
