Young People in Football

This is football played at the junior level. Our junior football consists of young male and female football teams. The junior teams are the younger version to the Waverley blues and are important to the growth of our community football club. This is because they are an integral part of any football club and prove the strength of any football club.

The Waverly Junior Team kick-started in 2015, under the leadership of the past Australian Cricket player and highly qualified coach Bryce McGain. It allows participation from boys under 9 to 17. It also later included the girls’ team.

The Club first fielded it is Under 16 youth girls’ team in 2016 where Riley Hall finished first and Amelia van Oosterwijk placed third in the league best and fairest awards.  Our Under 14 also played in 2018 with Abbey Ceravec placing thirds in the League best and fairest awards. In 2019, Amelia debuted in the AFLW for the western bulldogs- our first very female junior to play at the highest level.

The Mount Waverley Sports Club also aimed at encouraging local boys and girls to play football in a safe and supportive environment. We are devoted to the incremental improvement and participation of each player and team.

We provide a culture where players are encouraged to develop not just as football players but also as individuals.

The junior teams are treated as equally important as the senior footballers as the Club aimed at providing a family environment where players develop. The Club also strives to be a top-class sporting outlet to play, learn and enjoy all aspects of the football club and community life while promoting an atmosphere to encourage the achievement of personal family goals for members.

Above all, the Club provides equal playing opportunities for players of all skills levels. The Club also encourages the local boys and girls to participate in Auskick clinics like their older counterparts. Girls and Boys from ages 5 to 12, and all skill levels are invited to come along and learn the skills of Australian Football in a fun and supportive environment.

Our centre is perfect for students of nearby schools such as Waverley PS, Syndal Sth PS, Mt Waverley North PS, Holy Family PS and Pinewood PS. Our Auskick runs every Saturday morning from9am to 10:30 am during the school term, from April until the 26th of August. Sessions run at either Mount Waverley Reserve or Pinewood Reserve, depending on Ground availability.

We hope our Auskick players will continue through to later joining Waverley blues.
