Getting to Know Our Community
Our Community is what we make out of it. It is also what defines us as members of the Community. As a sports club, it forms part of our ideologies.
As stated in our values, the Club acknowledges the efforts of those who contribute to the well-being of our Club. Hence, we appreciate our local Community, and the strong influence the Club can have on all players, coaches, officials, and volunteers. Outside the field, we offer various programs and opportunities for our players, coaches and volunteers to promote their individual growth outside of football and netball and the development of the community at large. Therefore, we offer a range of programs which include:

Annual Community Social Responsibility Night
The Mount Waverley Sports held its second community social responsibility (CSR) evening titled “When the going gets tough…” at the Wesley Cato Hall on Wednesday the 26th of July. The evening night is aimed at improving Mental Health through talks and sensitisation. Hence, the Waverley Blues partnered with Australia’s premier youth mental health service headspace. An invitation was extended local schools and sporting clubs.
At the event, headspace social and clinical workers (Kirsten Cleland; Dr Sarah Davenport Deb and Pru) discussed on the warning signs of mental illness which include poor sleep; change in appetite; withdrawing from previously enjoyed activities; social isolation and negative thinking; cohabitation with persons suffering from depression or other mental illness.
The Special Guest speaker, Nick Pearce (2017 Victorian Young Achiever of the year and founder of HoMie) described the battles of mental illnesses. In a conversation with Dr Sarah Davenport, Nick told a powerful story of strength from family, friends and his football club.
He fought adversity with the help of his family and friends and then forge on to achieve great things to help others in his Community. Through his Organization, Nick is providing support for homeless people of Melbourne.
Deb and Pru gave compelling personal accounts which emphasised the importance of being there and listening. The night ended in a Q&A style panel where feedbacks were gathered and answered.
Training Workshops Around Gambling, Drugs and Alcohols.
The Club organises workshops from time to time, to discuss contemporary issues such as drugs and addiction, alcohol abuse etc.
Working Bees At Local Social Service Organisations
Our Club took the initiative to help any group in need in our Community to prove. Further, we are more than just a football club. One of our notable contributions is our senior team helping those with mental disabilities at the Oakleigh Centre.
AFL International Cup 2017 Host Venue
The Waverley Blues hosted New Zealand vs. Canada men’s game in 2017 as a part of the IC17. It was our biggest ever home game crowd and included our normal home games against Knox FC. We also had training with Canada, who joined us for team selection and dinners.
These are only a few of our programs as we look forward to adding greater values in our Community.
Finally, we are open to partner with any business or program. You can contact us through our mail: waverleyblues@efl.org.au
